GCSE Arabic Preparation and Programme
Almanar Arabic School provides a structured pathway to help students develop the language skills, confidence, and academic competence required to progress successfully towards GCSE Arabic. Our programme places strong emphasis on developing accurate Arabic language skills, including reading, comprehension, writing, speaking, vocabulary, and grammar, while gradually preparing students for the demands of the GCSE examination.
Pre-GCSE Arabic
The Pre-GCSE programme provides a strong foundation in Arabic language and literacy, preparing students for the more advanced demands of the GCSE course. Students progressively develop the ability to:
- Read Arabic confidently and accurately, developing their understanding of a range of texts and their ability to identify key information and respond appropriately to questions.
- Develop strong comprehension skills, enabling them to understand both the overall meaning and specific details within written Arabic.
- Write clearly and accurately in Arabic, developing the ability to produce extended pieces of writing on familiar subjects while applying appropriate vocabulary, sentence structures, and grammatical rules.
- Build a secure understanding of Arabic grammar and language structures, providing the foundation needed for more sophisticated communication at GCSE level.
- Expand their vocabulary and ability to communicate, preparing them to discuss a wider range of everyday, cultural, social, and educational topics.
GCSE Arabic
Students progressing to GCSE Arabic follow the Pearson Edexcel GCSE Arabic specification, which is designed to develop practical and academic language skills while recognising the importance of Arabic language and culture. Pearson describes the qualification as promoting advanced reading and research skills and supporting students in developing their understanding and use of Arabic.
The GCSE programme develops students’ ability to listen, speak, read, and write in Arabic, while applying an increasingly sophisticated range of vocabulary, grammar, and language structures.
Students study a broad range of relevant and engaging themes, including:
- Identity and Culture – family and relationships, daily life, food and drink, shopping, social media and technology, celebrations, music, sport, film and television.
- Local Area, Holiday and Travel – holidays, travel, accommodation, tourist destinations, directions, eating out, shopping, and places of interest.
- School – school life, subjects, routines, rules, pressures, school trips, events, and exchanges.
- Future Aspirations, Study and Work – further study, languages, employment, careers, volunteering, training, and future ambitions.
- International and Global Dimension – international events, sport, music, campaigns, good causes, environmental issues, and sustainability.
Through these themes, students develop the ability to:
- Read and understand a range of authentic and adapted Arabic texts, identifying key information, opinions, attitudes, and specific details.
- Respond accurately to comprehension questions, demonstrating both understanding of the text and the ability to communicate appropriate answers.
- Write accurately and coherently in Arabic, producing responses appropriate to different purposes, audiences, and contexts.
- Apply grammatical knowledge effectively, using an increasingly broad range of vocabulary, structures, and tenses to communicate ideas clearly.
- Express opinions, describe experiences, give information, and justify ideas across a wide range of familiar and contemporary topics.
- Communicate confidently in spoken Arabic, developing fluency, pronunciation, spontaneity, and the ability to interact effectively with others.
- Develop cultural understanding alongside language proficiency, enabling students to engage with Arabic-speaking communities and cultures while strengthening their bilingual identity.
Our aim is not simply to prepare students to pass an examination, but to develop confident, articulate, and academically capable Arabic speakers who can use their language skills effectively in education, family life, cultural settings, and future study and career opportunities.
The school also keeps its teaching and preparation aligned with the current Pearson Edexcel requirements and available assessment guidance, ensuring that students are appropriately prepared for the skills assessed through the GCSE qualification.
